Wheeshan Ong (pronounced "V-San") is a Malaysian-born Chinese artist who lives and works in a small home studio nestled among the woodlands of Carinthia, Austria. Inspired by nature, mythology, fairy tales and a lifelong love of storytelling, she transforms imagination into expressive paintings that invite viewers into worlds where beauty, symbolism and emotion intertwine.

Wheeshan began her artistic journey as an illustrator of colouring books before gradually turning her focus to painting. At the heart of her practice is the belief that beauty has the power to transform, connect and inspire. For her, painting is an act of devotion to beauty—not simply as an aesthetic ideal, but as a way of seeing the world with wonder, compassion and imagination. She uses the feminine figure as a symbolic presence through which she explores identity, memory, transformation and the ever-changing nature of emotion. Rather than illustrating fixed narratives, her paintings invite viewers to bring their own memories and imagination into the work, allowing each person to discover a unique story.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from Thames Valley University (now the University of West London), graduating in 2000. In her early twenties, a spirit of curiosity led her to leave Malaysia and explore the world. Along the way, she climbed to Everest Base Camp, dived with sharks, and embraced careers as diverse as computer programmer, flight purser, PADI scuba diving instructor, yoga teacher, gardener, and sales representative. These experiences took her across multiple continents, including living in Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, the United States, England, Spain, South America, and, ultimately, Austria. It was in the enchanted countryside of Carinthia that a series of unexpected turns in life led her back to her lifelong passion for art.

Today, her work continues to be shaped by her travels, curiosity and adventurous spirit, drawing upon mythology, archetypes and the transformative power of beauty. Alongside her painting practice, Wheeshan has published fourteen colouring books, a poetry and art collection, collaborated on colouring magazines, and exhibited her paintings in Germany, Slovenia and Austria.

When she is not painting, Wheeshan finds joy in books, poetry, flowers, animals and good food. Her favourite dish is Chinese dim sum 點心--especially baozi 包子 (steamed buns).

She hopes to spend the rest of her life painting, exploring and sharing beauty with others—for as long as the moon shines upon the earth.
